Truck Driver Who Choked on Chicken Causes Tractor-Trailer Accident
A 45-year-old truck driver told officials he crashed his big rig after choking on a piece of chicken and losing consciousness while driving on the Interstate 5 in Albany, Oregon. According to a KPTV news report, the big rig driver was eating chicken as he was driving. He began to choke and lost consciousness. The truck and the semi-trailer went across the center median and came to rest on the opposite median shoulder with the trailer overturned. Apparently, the trailer was carrying tires. The driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane of travel.
It is fortunate that no one else was injured in this truck accident. Had there been other vehicles in the vicinity there would have likely been several injuries involved. Or had the load of tires spilled on the freeway, it could’ve not only been messy, but would have also posed a serious hazard to motorists on the freeway.
It has become common practice in our culture to eat, shave or apply makeup while driving. But, please remember that these are extremely dangerous practices, which could result in tragedies. It’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others on your road. If you must eat, use your phone or do anything else that is likely to take your eyes or attention off the road, please pull over in a safe location, finish what you have to do and then proceed.

Sleepy Truck Driver Causes Accident
Every day, truck drivers fall asleep in their cabs because they work too long with too little rest, causing catastrophic accidents. Very often, truck companies allow this to happen and even encourage their drivers to falsify logs because they want to increase their profits by delivering more goods within a shorter period of time. Unrealistic schedules and truckers’ extremely long work hours create a risky combination, often resulting in tragedies for the driving public.
In a recent incident, a truck driver escaped with minor injuries after he fell asleep at the wheel and struck another tractor-trailer parked along the roadway. The driver hit the other truck and then went through a guard rail and rolled down an embankment. He was cited for failing to stay in his lane. Thankfully, the other truck driver was not injured.
If you have been injured in a Washington truck accident as a result of truck driver fatigue you may be able to file an injury claim against the trucking company for their negligence. In such cases you may be able to seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost earnings, cost of rehabilitation, hospitalization, therapy and other expenses. In cases where the victim is deceased, family members could file wrongful death claims as well.
